Over 60 years ago, when Joe’s grandfather opened Virgilios as a local grocer, he would wake up at 4 am, drive to Boston to pick up produce, meat and bread, and return to Gloucester by 6 am to stock before opening the store. In 1961 they started their own bakery so they could eliminate those morning trips and have piping hot bread right out of the oven. Virgilios is now a specialized Italian bakery.

Joe Virgilio has taken over the family business and Virgilios continues to grow.
